EMOTIONAL WELLBEING DEVELOPMENT

We provide companies with cost-effective means to enhance the emotional wellbeing of their staff, thereby improving their work performance and reducing absenteeism and employee turnover.

The Role of Emotional Intelligence

Traditionally, companies have relied on the use of IQ testing and personality profiling to assess their employees. Very few companies have considered Emotional Intelligence (EQ) assessment and improvement facilitation as an alternative means of improving workplace performance.

Although IQ and Personality have been linked to workplace success by many scientific studies over the last century, both measurements are static, meaning that they do not change much – if at all – over time. On the other hand, EQ is dynamic, meaning that it can be improved by means of continuous development and on-going assessment. Furthermore, there is no correlation between the three measurements of IQ, Personality and EQ, so it is impossible to predict one based on another.

Numerous studies have shown that increased levels of EQ can lead to:

  • Improved physical and mental health
  • The development of sound workplace relationships
  • Employees being better able to cope with high demands and stress
  • Increased levels of engagement and discretionary effort
  • Reduction in employee turnover and absenteeism
  • Increased creativity and innovation

In his book entitled Futureproof: 9 Rules for Humans in the Age of Automation (2021), Kevin Roose acknowledges that although the value of emotional intelligence is already obvious in jobs like nursing, ministry and teaching, his prediction is that making people feel connected and socially fulfilled will become a high-value skill in other fields, too. He suggests that “the key to a happy and rewarding life in the age of AI (Artificial Intelligence) is not competing with machines head-on – learning to code, optimising your life, eliminating all forms of personal inefficiency and waste – but strengthening your uniquely human skills, so you’re better equipped to do the things machines can’t do.”

Our Programmes

EQ MATURITY IMPROVEMENT

Numerous studies have shown that a more highly developed EQ can lead to:

  • Improved physical and mental health
  • The development of sound workplace relationships
  • Employees being better able to cope with high demands and stress
  • Increased levels of engagement and discretionary effort
  • Reduction in employee turnover and absenteeism
  • Increased creativity and innovation

The EQ Maturity Improvement Programme has been devised according to the guidelines recommended by The Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations, and is structured using our AFAR © methodology – Assess, Facilitate, Apply, Re-assess.

The programme consists of a pre- and post-course assessment, comprehensive training material and experiential exercises presented weekly over 6 weeks, and an additional 4 weeks of on-going on-the-job application of skills learned.

WORKPLACE MOTIVATION IMPROVEMENT

Motivation is a self-discipline, and so must come from within. However, it is possible to create an environment in which one can develop for oneself the habits of self-motivation.

Sadly, many organisations have not seen much – if any – improvement in the motivation levels of their staff after having a motivational speaker address them. This is because the speaking engagement is usually a “one-off”, with no follow-up opportunities to help the participants develop and practice the skills necessary for self-improvement.

The Workplace Motivation Improvement programme is based on the principles of Emotional Intelligence, and is structured using the philosophy of The Three R’s for Habit Formation Reminder, Routine, Reward. The programme consists of comprehensive training material and experiential exercises presented weekly over 6 weeks, with on-going opportunity for on-the-job application of skills learned.

TEAM RELATIONSHIPS IMPROVEMENT

This programme can stand on its own as a simple team building exercise, but is also a suitable follow up to the EQ Maturity Improvement programme.

The programme consists of various team activities involving both competition and collaboration The format can be tailored to meet the requirements of the client in terms of venue (indoors or outdoors) and timing (full day or half day.)

These programmes are devised and presented by Kevin Rodgers. Even after leaving the teaching profession and following a career as an IT Systems Developer and then Specialist IT Recruiter, Kevin retained his passion for developing people. He is now consulting as an EQ Coach, focused on sharing with others how they can use an understanding of their emotions to guide their thinking and behaviour to achieve improved work performance and personal wellbeing.
